Serbian Labour Market Survey

Labour Market Survey, Third Review, May 2007

The labour market survey focuses on the employment and macroeconomic trends in Serbia. It is a living document that is going to be continuously refined and updated over time so that it can provide a more effective counselling to potential beneficiaries and increase their opportunities to reintegrate them into civilian life utilising the project funds to develop sustainable activities.

Main source of data and information are official documents published by government institutions, analyses and reports of relevant international organisations such as the World Bank, the European Commission (EC), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the European Training Foundation (ETF) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), as well as meetings with representatives of the government ministries and other institution.

Concerning the labour market data it is important to note that there is a significant discrepancy between information received from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) and official data published by the Serbian Statistics Office and the National Employment Service because of different methodology. The LFS is based on international standards and recommendations, which allow cross-country comparison. The main discrepancy between these two sources refers to employment/unemployment rate and number of employed/unemployed persons.
